What really is Acai?

Acai(pronounced ah-sai-ee) has been all the rage lately but what is it?

The Acai berry is a dark purple fruit which has a similar shape to a grape. The berries grow in huge bunches near the tops of palm trees in the Amazon rain forests. They also have great health benefits such as antioxidants, amino acids, fibre, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. These benefits are the reason why acai is so popular.

An acai bowl is primarily a really thick smoothie which consists of pureed acai and sometimes some banana, watermelon or other berries. This is then topped with granola and a variety of fruit. This is a great breakfast as it fills you up for hours and gives you many health benefits.
